Hair Removal Equipment Buying Guide

Hair removal equipment is compared on wavelength, energy, pulse width, frequency, cooling, and spot size. Wavelength decides which chromophore the energy targets. Energy, measured in joules per square centimetre, decides the dose delivered to each area. Pulse width decides how long each burst lasts. Frequency decides how fast the operator can work. Cooling decides comfort and safety. Spot size decides coverage speed and control in small areas.

Two published examples on this site show how those values combine. The diode laser model lists a 808 nanometre wavelength, energy of 10 to 80 joules per square centimetre, pulse width of 5 to 100 milliseconds, frequency of 1 to 20 hertz, a treatment head temperature down to minus 16 degrees Celsius, and spot sizes of 12 by 23 and 12 by 12 millimetres paired with different handle powers. The SHR-950 lists HR and SR bands, IPL energy of 10 to 50 and SHR energy of 1 to 10 joules per square centimetre, separate frequency ranges per mode, and a lowest head temperature of minus 10 degrees Celsius.

Models without a published parameter set are treated differently in this guide. The vacuum microneedling RF family, for example, has no detail page and no parameter table, so its selection section on the category page states only that specifications must be confirmed at inquiry. That discipline applies to every family: a value that is not published is a question, not a specification.

Before payment, confirm the full specification table for your model, the handpieces and spot sizes included, the cooling maintenance, the consumables, and the training provided. For the models themselves, see the diode laser page and the SHR-950 page.
